In conjunction with Sartori winery's 120th anniversary, Dionysus and Macalister Mansion presents this exclusive master class and wine tasting event conducted by Mr. Andrea Sartori (Owner of Sartori Winery) and Mr. Alberto Orengia (Asia Pacific Sales Director) on 17th November 2018 at The Cellar, Maclister Mansion. Many thanks to Macalister Mansion and Dionysus Asia for the special invite to this exclusive event.

Hailing from Valpolicella, an area punctuated by wine, olive and cherry trees, Satori winery was established by the Sartori di Verona family and has been running for four generations. Sartori means tailoring, and just as a tailor styles, Sartori measures, sketches the design, chooses the fabrics and finally creates the suit–the blend, the wine–which will walk down the world’s most prestigious “catwalks” and shine in a glass of Amarone or Soave Classico, the quintessence of Made in Verona, Italy.
The event kicked-off with Mr. Sartori giving a brief introduction and history of their winery. The company was founded by his great-grandfather Pietro in 1898. “I knew my great-grandfather, but not my grandfather, because fate decreed that the father outlive his son,” he says. “Despite a rather grumpy character, he had certain affection for my brother and me.”

We had the opportunity to taste a wide range of wines from Sartori's portfolio including three of their wines officially launched on that day to commemorate their 120th anniversary celebration (not in the list).

To accompany our wines, each enthusiast has their own plate of canapes prepared specially from The Living Room.
The list of wines is surely extensive, my pick of the bunch is the Marani Bianco Veronese IGT for white and the Reius Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico DOCG for the red. The Marani, named after their grandmother is made from 100% Garganega grapes. It has earthy notes of honey, stone and minerals with some hints of oak. It has a fuller body and lower acidity compared to the Soave classico. Due to its similar method of production to the Amarone, it is sometimes called the "White Amarone".
And then of course there is the Reius. Made from a blend of grapes, primarily from the Corvina, this Amarone is bold with aromas of red fruit jam and oak with hints of spice on the finish. Its tannins are smooth and velvety with an excellent complex finish. This Amarone retails at RM263, has a Vivino rating of 4.2 and is rated as top 1% of wines in the world. Do you know why are Amarone wines so expensive? Read about it here.
An eye-opener and good learning experience. Looking forward to taste more wines from the Verona region in the not too distant future. Till then Saluti!
